Patterns from Life

PATTERNS

For OUTFITS For GLOVES For REVERS

Newly discovered by me, a collection of patterns dating from the 1940s.  In one instance I can now reunite an example of the finished product with the original magazine article from 1943.

I have had the collar (or revers if you prefer) and the matching cuffs? pocket decorations? in my possession for many years, having 'borrowed' them from my mother years ago to sew onto something. Never did anything with them.  Recently some of my late mothers sewing supplies, patterns and cloth have come to me and there I found a faded page from a magazine inviting the reader to send 1/1d (one shilling and one penny 'as Postal Order ') to obtain the transfer for the design shown. I dug out the set (that itself was a minor triumph...I knew where to find it) and the results you can see for yourself. Wonderful.

Next a pattern for a smart outdoors (see the golf club) ensemble. Sadly this I do not have to compare to the pattern. But I do have the buttons that were intended for the next version or perhaps removed from a discarded old version. It was war time, so utility was the keyword.

And finally gloves and mittens

Thanks mum.
